On January 25th, iCons alumni living in the Greater Boston Area kicked off 2018 with wine, burgers, and conversation at the UMass Club in Downtown Boston.

As the iCons program kicked off its eighth year, ten of our alumni returned to the UMass campus to present the second edition of the iCons Survival Guide, our annual event focused on preparing current undergraduates with the tools they need for success in the iCons program.

On October 14th 2017, iCAN volunteered at the Geek is Glam Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) event for the second year in a row. Geek is Glam is an annual one day event at Worcester Polytechnic Institute organized by the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts. Through an engaging day of hands-on workshops and interactive career panels, the girls in grades 4-8 are introduced to new areas of science and engineering. The event aims to inspire the next generation of female scientists.

To welcome recent graduates of the iCons program to the Boston area, iCAN held its first Fall BBQ. A little bit of rain didn’t stop us from having a great time!

On August 4, iCAN bridged new territory by showcasing the first ever iCons-style case study presented to high-school students grades 9-12. Seven alumni gathered at MIT as part of Junior Achievement’s Summer Institute to present a case study highlighting food deserts to over 40 students from various Massachusetts high schools.

On June 26 the network partnered with Junior Achievement of Northern New England to teach fifth, sixth, and seventh grade classes for a day. Six alumni traveled to the Eliot Innovation K-8 School in Boston for “JA in a Day”, a full-day program for students conducted in their regular school classrooms.

On August 17, the network partnered with Junior Achievement of Northern New England to give students a glimpse into the working world. Matt Richard and Emily Travers participated in a round-robin panel discussion called the “Careers Speed Dating Workshop” as part of Junior Achievement’s annual Summer Institute.

On August 17, the network partnered with Junior Achievement of Northern New England for a round robin workshop in which alumni engaged with high school students for meaningful conversations about how to prepare for and excel in college and life after college. Five alumni traveled to Northeastern University to give a presentation called “Evolution of Life: Leaving the Nest” as part of Junior Achievement’s annual Summer Institute.
